This book is a superb piece of storytelling that takes us into an abyss of human nature. The story centers on the depraved, reclusive mad-scientist, Dr. Moreau, who conducts unspeakable animal experiments on a remote tropical island, with hideous, humanlike results.

Edward Prendick is an Englishman, who is the lone survivor of a shipwreck that finds him drifting without food or water for more than a week out at sea. His misfortunes deliver him to an unknown Island. He becomes a terrified witness to a collection of genetically modified Beast Folk as they slowly regress back to their animalistic tendencies. The islands inhabitants are far worse than anything he could have imagined. He wished he was left to die at sea.

While gene-splicing and bioengineering is common practices today, readers are still astounded at the haunting vision and the ethical questions Wells raised over a century ago.

This book is unabridged and the story appears as it was first published in 1896.
